I've been running mainly Visual C sharp and Quicken. I haven't installed the included Kapersky anti-virus because I don't use Windows for email or much internet stuff (and I've read that the anti-virus can slow down or possibly destabilize Parallels.

I'm using Parallels to run Windows XP inside of an iMac with 4GB memory, latest Mac OS X. Version 4 has recently been tested against VMware Fusion and found to be 14-20% faster.

Finally, Parallels Version 4 is faster than Version 3 on my machine and seems to be smarter in allocating RAM I have 4 Gigs so I am not overly concerned but still, it is a nice design feature. The toolbar is at the top where it should be and not on the side as it was before. Version 4 is more attractive than Version 3 to my eye. The development team is active on the forum just as they seem to be actively watching the Amazon reviews. There is no link to it from the main Parallels site that I can find but it is an excellent resource. The Parallels forum seems to be a little bit of an open secret. I was able to go to the Parallels forums, search for the symptom, find the solution and complete the conversion without further incident. So the conversion seemed stalled about halfway through step 2 of 4 steps. Only one issue: During the conversion process there was a Windoze dialog box that was obscured by the conversion progress window and was asking for, natch, reactivation of XP.

I had a mostly easy upgrade experience from Version 3 to Version 4 on my new unibody MacBook Pro 17. Would I like to test drive it first in comparison with Fusion? Of course.ĭid I have time? Yes and no.but why does this matter anyway?!

If for some reason it lets me down, trust you me, I will update my review. I intend to run both W7 and W2K8 on Parallels. Second - I saw that Parallels would provide the necessary functions I required to convince the wife to make the transition from PC to iMac. (I've had many a discussion with MCSE, CISSP, CCNA, Unix and Linux Guru's - and we all came to the same conclusion.ultimately, Vista x86 or 圆4 - even though 圆4 is smokin' x86).

Can't complain too much, right?! Vista blue screen at least 4 times a week on me.and as I said, I know what I'm doing with both software and hardware. Overall, I would put it's reliability at around 85%. I had to know that it would do what I needed, and thus, it almost has competed that to 99% expectancy. Unfortunately I didn't have the time for this. Since I couldn't see Fusion first hand then I wasn't willing to risk it. Why did I buy Parallels instead of Fusion?įirst - Apple has a local store where I could see Parallels in action and it fulfilled all my requirements for the transition from PC to iMac. However, at this time, from the reviews I've read, it would appear that Fusion might do a little better.

Now, thats not to say that iMac or Parallels is responsible for that. I'm very pleased with the iMac, but so so with Parallels. With all that being said though, I've been working on both Parallels and iMac for about a week now. I have multiple qualifications from MS and wouldn't trade them for all the bragging rights on iMac's to save my life. I was using Windows Vista 2 years before it came available for public download in the Beta form so I do have some experience working in the MS area. I've been working with Parallels for about a week now.and before getting into this review too far understand that I'm a season Windows practioner.
